Union Club of Morrisania (NY)

Baseball history photo: An 1867 team photo of the Unions of Morrisania proclaiming themselves the 1867 and 1868 champions. A formidable team from 1866-1868, 19c Base Ball believes that the 1866 team was the only year the Union Club could lay claim to the championship. It is generally acknowledged that they were the champions of the 1867 season, when teams outside of NY were not considered. Even with nineteenth century baseball icon George Wright and a 25 game winning streak, the 1868 Morrisania Club was not declared the champion. The players are (L to R) George Smith, LF; Dan Ketchum, 3B; Tommy Beals, RF, Ed Shelly, 3B; Dave Birdsall, C; Charley Pabor, P; Albro Aiken, SS; Henry Austin, CF; Al Martin, 2B and John Goldie, 1B.
