Red Stockings vs. Atlantics
Baseball history illustration depicting the June 14, 1870 defeat of the Cincinnati Red Stockings by the Brooklyn Atlantics at Capitoline Grounds in Brooklyn, NY. Including exhibition matches, the loss was the first in 94 matches for Cincinnati. The same Atlantic Club was also the last to defeat the Red Stockings, doing so on September 25, 1868, 31-12, in New York. The Atlantics are in the field with George Zettlein pitching and Bob Ferguson playing third base. Ferguson was the Captain of the Atlantics and interestingly enough, this is the first reported game of any player hitting from both sides of the plate—that player was Bob Ferguson.
