Vintage baseball photo: September 18, 2004: The Providence Grays and New York Mutuals after an 1864 match at Doubleday Field, Cooperstown, New York in which the Mutuals won 15-8. The previous day members of the Mutuals and Grays presented the history of 19th century base ball to high school and college professors from the San Diego, California area in the Baseball Hall of Fame as part of a specialized learning program. The entire game was filmed by the Baseball Hall of Fame and excerpts were used for the opening of the Internet program “Discovering Our American Spirit: Finding Common Ground in the National Pastime.” This interactive Internet program, featuring the Ozzie Smith, the NY Mutuals and students from San Diego High schools, was filmed live in April 2005 and seen by an estimated 17 million grade school students.
